When the water outgrows its chemicals
Every time a pool loses water to evaporation and gets topped off, the minerals stay behind. In the Arizona desert, where heat pulls water out fast and fill water arrives hard, dissolved solids climb season after season. Eventually the water turns dull, sanitiser seems to stop working, and scale keeps coming back on the tile.
That is the job we list as a drain and fill: fresh water for pools whose dissolved solids have climbed past what chemicals can fix. No chemical removes dissolved solids. Only dilution does. Emptying a plaster pool without hurting it
Draining is not just pulling the plug. A plaster shell can be damaged when it is emptied at the wrong time or without a plan, and plaster left bare in summer sun does not enjoy it either. Before a valve opens, the pool, the season and where the water is going all need a look.
Once the pool is down, the floor and steps are right there to see. The photo above shows exactly that stage: stained plaster and a hose laid across it. A good crew uses the empty pool to sweep and rinse the shell, check the fittings and note anything worth telling the owner, then refills with fresh water and watches it come up.
New water is not finished water
A freshly filled pool is a blank slate, and that is the point, but it has to be balanced again from the start. Fresh water needs its chemistry built up carefully, with testing as it settles, before it is ready for swimmers. The weekly route we run across the West Valley picks up from there.
A drain and fill pairs naturally with an acid wash. If the plaster is also stained, the empty pool is the one moment to deal with both in a single visit. Ask about the two together. Afterwards, weekly service keeps the water in range with basic chemicals included, a photo report after every visit and no contract, month to month.
