Flagstone, coping and block wall: what is actually on the surface

Too much pressure lifts the face of flagstone, scours grout lines and leaves tiger stripes on concrete that look worse than the dirt did. Around a pool the wash water has to go somewhere too, so the work is planned to keep loosened grit out of the pool and the filter.
